I came across a passage in James that talks about favortisim. James has always been my favorite book in the Bible because its straight up telling you how to live. And alot of the time, that is what I go to the bible for, is to learn how to live.
This passage is labeled : Favoritisim Forbidden.
My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don't show favoritism. Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine cloths and a poor man in shabby cloths also comes in. If you show special attention to the man wearing fine cloths and say, "Heres a good seat for you," but say to the poor man, "You stand there" or " Sit on the floor by my feet" have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?
When I read this, it reminds me of a fancy restaurant and the waiter giving the person who looks richer, or who is famous, the better seat.
But more importantly, it reminds me of highschool. It reminds me of my social group. And I, myself, have been guilty of this. It reminds me of a group of girls , who happen to be wearing nice cloths and who are popular)sitting in a lunch room (and you know how everyone has their tables) . And them not letting another girl, (or guy) sit with them because that persons cloths are not nice, or that person is not popular. They didnt even give him or her a chance Just because of their appearance.
The scripture goes on:
Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? But you have insulted the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court? Are they not the ones who are slandering the noble name of him to whom you belong?
If you relly keep the royal law found in scripture, "Love your neighbor as yourself," you are doing right but if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers. For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. For he who said "Do not commit adultry", also said,"Do not murder" if you do not commit adultry but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.
This shows me alot. If you were talking about a girl who sleeps with a different guy every night, who drinks "parties" and does all that stuff, then your going to call her a slut, am i correct? They are a law breaker, they are obviously not taking God's word seriously. Weve all done it. Weve all talked about a girl like that. And none of us take Gods word serious enough. But in doing that, in you saying "shes a slut and whore" you yourself are gossiping. You yourself are judging her, when you should be letting God judge her. So we are law breakers too.
Im guilty of this also.
Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom. Becausee judgement without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgement!
